Stories & Insights July 22, 2024
We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keith Mosley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keith below.
Keith, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned to do what I do by a bunch of trial and error. Constantly failing so that I know what it takes to succeed. Knowing what I know now, I believe that patience is important on speeding up my learning process. Taking the time to make sure everything is where it needs to be instead of rushing just for the sake releasing art. And networking. I wish that I would’ve been better at networking with others when I first started my artist journey. Something that was most essential to me is to not take anything personal and don’t compare your path to others. They say that comparison is the thief of joy and that is very true. Stay focused on your own path and try to be better than you were before. The main obstacles that stood in my way for learning more would have to be resources. Starting from scratch and not always knowing which direction to take to achieve my goals.
Keith, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Keith Mosley. I grew up in the small town of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. I’ve always been a creative person for as long as I can remember. Before I got the tools to get into music and photography I used to be big into drawing. I used to draw my favorite cartoon characters and even used to draw my own cartoons and flip books, but I’ve always had a love for music. Growing up I always thought that I would be a professional football player because of my love for the sport and playing it for most of my life. Once I came to the realization that my life won’t go in that direction, I started looking for other ways to express myself and that’s when I turned to music. I started making music once I got to college with my childhood friends and eventually started photography. My passion for music grew stronger once i realized how it can be used as a form of expression. I know how much of a positive impact music has had on my life and I want to use my music to have a positive impact on others. Now my ultimate goal is to be a full time creative and to have my own production company. I also love being the man behind the camera and using the camera to tell stories through pictures and videos. The thing I’m proud of the most is being self taught. I’ve put in countless hours in what I do and nobody can take that away from me. I’m always willing to learn new things and I love to work with others. And I want everything that I’ve learned so far to help me continue to grow as an artist and as a creative.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think the best thing society can do to support us is to just give us a chance. There are so many of us who are trying to gain followers and grow our fan base. I feel like society can be quick to brush us to the side simply because we don’t have that big name yet. I truly believe that if society just gives us a chance, they’ll realize the amount of talent that’s around them.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The thing that’s most rewarding is when people tell me how much they enjoy my music. Or when I take pictures/videos for someone and they tell me how much they love the pictures and videos.
